Florida OL high on the Vols

Tennessee and Navarre, Fla., offensive lineman Nick Brahms go back a ways.

The 6-foot-5, 285-pound offensive tackle from the Panhandle has been on Tennessee’s radar since he visited his freshman year and since then the Vols have been a school on his mind.

“They were really the first school to start recruiting me,” Brahms said. “I came up there for a visit in the ninth grade and I really liked it. I like coach Mahoney and the way he coaches. The facilities are amazing and the coaches are great.”

In the few years since the Vols began their pursuit of Brahms numerous schools have joined in. But, more recently it’s been bigger programs like Oregon, Mississippi State, North Carolina and more that have started to recruit him harder.

But, Tennessee standing with him from the beginning and even through a foot injury that cost him some games during his junior season has meant a good deal to him and has left Tennessee high on his list.

“It meant a lot to be honest with you,” Brahms said. “I didn’t have any offers or any stars before they started recruiting me and then they were with me through a few injuries and that means a lot.

“They’re definitely high on my list. Out of all the schools I’ve visited they’re my Number One. I’ve visited a few schools, but they are the top one I’ve seen.”

Brahms was recently named an Army All-American Game and credits his style of play that isn’t flashy but straight to the point.

“I say that I play fast and physical. I love to block,” Brahms said.

It’s something the Vols saw early on.
